Lectio Divina Meetings - Join Us!

Meetings are on Wednesdays 11am–12noon : 24th June, both in the Parish Centre, 22nd July in The Chapterhouse (all three are major feasts of the English Church).

This is a way of opening our hearts to reading scripture in the Holy Spirit. It is an ancient

practice, commended by St Benedict in his Rule. Lectio, whether in a group or on your own, begins with prayer, and then focuses on a brief passage of scripture. Read it several times, silently or aloud, and just allow yourself to sit with it. Be open to the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God - allowing yourself to be moved by it.

Let it resonate with you and think about what it is saying to you. This helps us grow in love of scripture, and is a way of growing into prayer.

Dear friends in Christ,

We have reached the last of our post-Pentecost Sunday feasts, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). This feast reminds us that Our Lord Jesus Christ is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. He gives Himself in the form of bread and wine as a most wonderful gift, so we can receive Him most intimately into our souls. It is most appropriate that our First Holy Communion candidates, Iga, Marley, Poppy & Skylar, who will be receiving the Lord for the first time in Holy Communion this Sunday at the 11.00am Parish Mass. Please do keep them in your prayers.

In the evening we will be having a Corpus Christi procession (weather permitting) in the Abbey gardens following Vespers, which starts at the usual time of 5.55pm.

It has been wonderful to have the Old Boys and Girls of Belmont Abbey School with us this weekend coming to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the school. We particularly remember and pray for all those who taught, assisted and were pupils at the school who have gone to their eternal reward.

PARISH GARDEN FETE: Our Fete is only a few weeks away (Saturday, 20th June, 2pm)!

Books of raffle tickets are available in the glass porch for you to sell to your family and friends.

We particularly need donations of bottles for the bottle stall, plants for the plant stall and cakes for the cake stall!.

TOMATO PLANTS: Anthea has been growing tomato plants for the fete but they are ready to sell from next weekend. Varieties include Nello's Plum, American Heritage Stone Ridge and Burmese Sour.

Archdiocese Mission Event - Hereford

27th-28th June 2026 Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) have been invited to run a mission throughout the Archdiocese. They are a Canadian based Catholic movement raising up Christ-centred, Spirit-filled leaders with the aim to evangelise the world one person at a time.

Two events which are taking place in Hereford are:

• ‘Learning to Pray’ taking place at Belmont Abbey on 27th June 2026. This is a day for everyone interested in deepening their prayer life, led by the CCO founder, Andre Regnier.

• Parish Evangelisation Day at St Francis Xavier’s, Hereford on 28th June 2026. A day of formation and evangelisation for those in Herefordshire.

Four documents are available which have been issued from the Synod Office outlining the next phase in the work towards the Synod of Bishops in 2023-2024. This is known as the “Continental Stage” where the Bishops’ Conferences of the area in which you live (for us in Europe the CCEE will be leading on this) send delegations to an ecclesial gathering for further discernment of the theme of the Synod: For a Synodal Church: Communion, participation, mission.

Receiving the Synod: What happens in our parish? The 3-year 'Synod on Synodality', one of the most important events in the life of the modern Church, concluded at the end of October with a big assembly of bishops and others in Rome. It was an important event in the life of the church, but we might wonder what difference it makes, and if it matters to us at all. One of the ‘experts’ at the assembly, Dr Austen Ivereigh, will help our parishes receive the fruits of the synod in two separate sessions at Hedley Lodge, Belmont Abbey.

We had had a number of emails relating to the Working Document, saying it was too long and not easy to read. There was a call for a shorter and simpler version.

The Diocesan Synodal Team (DST) recognised that it is actually a beautiful document but felt that we had to answer the call. A member of the DST spent considerable time writing. a shorter and simpler version.

Event: Gather the fruits of Heart Speaks to Heart

Saturday, 23rd May, from 10.00am (coffee) until 12:30pm

Come and help GATHER THE FRUITS of our deanery’s HEART SPEAKS TO HEART six-week programme of parish meetings on the call by Pope Leo and Archbishop Mark to become synodal and missionary.

After Abbot Brendan leads us in a time of prayer, we will hear from each parish about what arose from its meetings, then reflect together on next steps in small groups, using Conversation in the Spirit.

The eve-of-Pentecost celebration will take place in The Chapterhouse, Belmont Abbey, on Saturday, 23rd May, from 10.00am (coffee) until 12:30pm, followed by CAFOD lunch for those who want to stay. (Once again, you do not need to have attended the meetings to come to this — all are welcome).

Our Synod report is now ready for you to see. It has been challenging trying to amalgamate a wide variety of responses, we have tried hard not to leave anything out. It was tricky fitting it into the template we were sent after having distributed our questionnaire!!
