Dear friends in Christ, This weekend, we celebrate the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. It is a time to reflect on the wonderful mystery of our faith: one God in three divine persons. Although this mystery is beyond our full understanding, it reminds us of the depth of God’s love and how he makes Himself present to us in different ways within our lives. Marking the 135th anniversary of Rerum novarum, last Monday, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence. In it, he calls for the safeguarding of our shared humanity, the promotion of truth, dignity of work, social justice and peace. In its five chapters, Magnifica humanitas presents a clear message: technology is neither “a force antagonistic to humanity” nor “inherently evil”. At the same time, it is never neutral, because it reflects the values of those who create, fund, regulate, and use it. Pope Leo XIV therefore calls on people to shape technology for the common good and to remain deeply human, embracing a spirit of shared responsibility and communion so that the world may “come to recognise the human heart as the place where God desires to dwell”. The full encyclical can be read on the Holy See’s website vatican.va Next Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) where our First Holy Communion candidates will receive the Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist for the first time at the 11.00am Parish Mass. Please keep Iga, Marley, Poppy & Skylar in your prayers. In the evening we will be having a Corpus Christi procession in the Abbey gardens following Vespers which, starts at the usual time of 5.55pm.

Meetings are on Wednesdays 11am–12noon : 24th June, both in the Parish Centre, 22nd July in The Chapterhouse (all three are major feasts of the English Church). This is a way of opening our hearts to reading scripture in the Holy Spirit. It is an ancient practice, commended by St Benedict in his Rule. Lectio, whether in a group or on your own, begins with prayer, and then focuses on a brief passage of scripture. Read it several times, silently or aloud, and just allow yourself to sit with it. Be open to the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God - allowing yourself to be moved by it. Let it resonate with you and think about what it is saying to you. This helps us grow in love of scripture, and is a way of growing into prayer.
