RECONCILIATION

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion."

Run back to him with all your heart...

Our human nature has inherited from the fall of Adam and Eve a state call concupiscence. This is the sin causing error. God in his infinite Mercy provided us a way in which we can run back to him when we fall. Reconciliation is a beautiful way back to Christ after we recognise our error... .

God is merciful

It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential and integral element of this sacrament's purpose and practice.

In a profound and deeply spiritual sense, it is also a "confession" — an acknowledgment and expression of admiration — of the holiness of God and of His boundless mercy toward sinful humanity.

Through confession, believers not only confront their own shortcomings but also reaffirm their faith in God’s forgiveness, highlighting the transformative power of grace in their lives.

LECTIO DIVINA: This is a way of opening our hearts to reading scripture in the Holy Spirit. It is an ancient practice, commended by St Benedict in his Rule. Lectio, whether in a group or on your own, begins with prayer, and then focuses on a brief passage of scripture. Read it several times, silently or aloud, and just allow yourself to sit with it. Be open to the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God - allowing yourself to be moved by it. Let it resonate with you and think about what it is saying to you. This helps us grow in love of scripture, and is a way of growing into prayer.
