Meetings are on Wednesdays 11am–12noon : 27th May, 24th June, both in the Parish Centre, 22nd July in The Chapterhouse (all three are major feasts of the English Church). This is a way of opening our hearts to reading scripture in the Holy Spirit. It is an ancient practice, commended by St Benedict in his Rule. Lectio, whether in a group or on your own, begins with prayer, and then focuses on a brief passage of scripture. Read it several times, silently or aloud, and just allow yourself to sit with it. Be open to the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God - allowing yourself to be moved by it. Let it resonate with you and think about what it is saying to you. This helps us grow in love of scripture, and is a way of growing into prayer.

Dear friends in Christ, This Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles at Pentecost and the birthday ofthe Church. Let us pray this week that the Holy Spirit may fill our lives more deeply and set our hearts ablaze with the love of Christ. Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) have been invited to run a mission throughout the Archdiocese. They are a Canadian based Catholic movement raising up Christ-centred, Spirit-filled leaders with the aim to evangelise the world one person at a time. Two events which are taking place in Hereford are: • ‘Learning to Pray’ taking place at Belmont Abbey on 27th June 2026. This is a day for everyone interested in deepening their prayer life, led by the CCO founder, Andre Regnier. • Parish Evangelisation Day at St Francis Xavier’s, Hereford on 28th June 2026. A day of formation and evangelisation for those in Herefordshire. Further details will be shared in due course. During this week, we have many different feast days taking place. Two important Benedictine ones are: • St Bede the Venerable, whose feast is celebrated on Monday, was a monk of Northumbria, a gifted scholar, and one of the greatest historians of the early English Church. Through his writings, especially his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, he preserved the story of the spread of Christianity in these lands. A man of prayer and learning, St Bede reminds us that the pursuit of knowledge can deepen faith and draw us closer to God. • St Augustine of Canterbury, whose feast is celebrated on Wednesday, was a monk sent by Pope St Gregory the Great to bring the Gospel to the Anglo-Saxons. As the first Archbishop of Canterbury, he laid the foundations of the Church in England through preaching, baptism, and patient missionary work. His courage and trust in God helped sow the seeds of faith that would bear fruit for generations. St Augustine reminds us of the importance of sharing the Gospel with gentleness, perseverance and hope. My prayers and best wishes, Fr . Augustine

EMMAUS DISCOVER YOUTH MISSION SUMMER CAMP: 5th - 9th August 2026. For pupils in Year 9 to Year 13. Taking place in St David's Bunk Barns, Pembrokeshire. £300, Travel & Meals included to journey with us, scan QR or email youth@cardiffmenevia.org. The deadline for registration and payment is 8th June. EMMAUS DISCOVER YOUTH MISSION ARCHDIOCESE OF CARDIFF MENEVIA Why Emmaus? In Luke 24 we see two disciples walking the road to Emmaus, heavy with confusion, dejection and sorrow after Jesus’ crucifixion. They don’t realise it at first, but the risen Christ has walked with them – listening to their concerns, questions, explaining Scripture, and ultimately revealing Himself in the breaking of bread. This unexpected, personal and deeply transformative moment the disciples experienced on the road to Emmaus captures what we desire for every young person: that they know Jesus as the one who walks with them on their life’s journey View more Here

Four documents are available which have been issued from the Synod Office outlining the next phase in the work towards the Synod of Bishops in 2023-2024. This is known as the “Continental Stage” where the Bishops’ Conferences of the area in which you live (for us in Europe the CCEE will be leading on this) send delegations to an ecclesial gathering for further discernment of the theme of the Synod: For a Synodal Church: Communion, participation, mission. The documentation is available here: The Working Document for the Continental Stage (DCS) Frequently Asked Questions regarding the next stage of the process An updated Infographic for the whole Synodal Process 4. There was a Press Conference which presented the Working Document today which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKYiTsXYnwk
