Dear friends in Christ, What a wonderful occasion it was on Tuesday to celebrate our patronal feast of St Michael & All Angels and the Solemn Professions of Doms Meinrad and Gildas. If you missed out the livestream of the Mass is available on the Abbey website: https://www.belmontabbey.org.uk/online-streaming Next weekend is Prisoners' Sunday; it is the Catholic Church's national day of prayer and action for prisoners, their children and families, and all those affected by imprisonment. It is an opportunity to reflect on Christ's call, "I was in prison and you visited me" and to respond with prayer, compassion and practical support. Pact is the national Catholic prison charity that supports prisoners, people with convictions, and their families. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, they believe in the dignity of every person and in the possibility of a fresh start. Next weekend there will be a second collection to support their work. This week the fancy new card donation machine arrived and has been set up in the glass porch. With the new machine, the card reader is built in, so you can tap your payment card or device to the screen. The old machine will still be available and can take chip and PIN payments if required. The Parish Centre has been receiving a few upgrades recently with hand dryers installed in the toilets and this week with new LED lighting and motion sensors in the corridors, kitchenette and toilets. Many thanks to Fr Patrick for looking after the Parish Sunday Masses for me this weekend while I attend a hospital appointment..

Join the Deanery-wide Synodality Reading Group meeting online once a week for six weeks starting 15th September, 7pm. The idea is to receive and digest the Final Document of the worldwide Synod on Synodality, which invites us to create room for the Spirit to guide the Church in our changing world. At each weekly hour-long session we’ll pray with Scripture, read a short passage from the Synod Final Document, and share in small groups using Conversation in the Spirit. To receive the Zoom link, email Austen: aivereigh@gmail.com.
