Join the Deanery-wide Synodality Reading Group meeting online once a week for six weeks starting 15th September, 7pm. The idea is to receive and digest the Final Document of the worldwide Synod on Synodality, which invites us to create room for the Spirit to guide the Church in our changing world.  At each weekly hour-long session we’ll pray with Scripture, read a short passage from the Synod Final Document, and share in small groups using Conversation in the Spirit. An Ecumenical Service in anticipation of the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross at 3.00pm Sunday, 13th September at Tintern Abbey. The monks of Belmont Abbey will be singing alongside Newport Cathedral Choir. Abbot Brendan will be preaching. Please bring a folding chair and umbrella. WORLD YOUTH DAY 2027: To all those aged 18-30, join Archbishop Mark and a group from the diocese heading to next summer's for World Youth Day 2027 in Seoul, South Korea. With Pope Leo and a million other young Catholics, we'll enjoy a full schedule of activities and formation, in a country with a vibrant and growing Catholic community - we'll also have opportunities to meet up before we travel. The dates of the trip are July 28th to August 9th, and the cost is £1500 per person plus the cost of 􀀁lights (TBC - in the region of £800 to £1200). Next Saturday, our Parish Open Meeting & AGM takes place from 10.00am to 12.30pm. Join us and discover the many groups, ministries and activities that make up our parish. There will be an opportunity to meet those involved at stations around The Chapterhouse, find out more about what we do, and discover how you can get involved. Elections for members of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) will also take place. We will also be ratifying our new Constitution for the PPC, copies of which are available in the glass porch. It would be really great to see as many parishioners present as possible. It was good to see that the Assisted Suicide Bill did not pass its second reading in Parliament last Friday. The bill was defeated by a majority of 16 which included Jesse Norman, our MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire. Unlike the MPs in the surrounding constituencies, who all voted in favour of the bill. Archbishop Mark released this statement: "It's a good day for democracy and for the dignity of human life to see the defeat of this Bill in the House of Commons. I want to thank all those who wrote to their MPs and who advocated for the weakest and most vulnerable in our society. We must continue to seek excellent palliative care which is broad and consistent across our nations, so that no person is made to feel a burden and all those facing the end of their lives can feel supported, loved and respected."
